Helmets

Motorcycle helmets clearly work to reduce injuries and fatalities among motorcyclists. Gulf Coast Motorcycle Training, Inc.© strongly recommends the use of a D.O.T. approved helmet while riding a motorcycle.

The Basic Rider Course (B.R.C

The Basic Rider Course is now required for a motorcycle endorsement.

Upon successful completion, GCMTI  will submit the pass results electronically to the DHSMV records. Upon receiving the results, you will be processed for a motorcycle endorsement. When you go to the Driver's license office to get your endorsement or motorcycle only license, simply present your certificate to the examiner and they will electronically check to see if you have completed the BRC course.

The Beginning Rider Course consists of 15 hours of instruction including approximately 5 hours in the classroom and 10 hours of intense riding on the parking lot range. This course will teach you how to operate a motorcycle safely, and strongly emphasizes the special skills and mental attitude required for dealing with every day riding.

Even if you have been riding for a long time, don't be fooled into believing that you will not learn a lot in the Basic Motorcycle Class.

Classroom instruction utilizes slides, video tapes, lectures, and a textbook to provide practical knowledge. You will learn about different types of motorcycles, their controls, and how they operate. The instructors, all experienced motorcyclists, will advise you on the proper riding gear to ensure comfort and protection. You will also learn how alcohol and other drugs affect your ability to ride safely.

The range at Gulf Coast Motorcycle Training, Inc. is a controlled, off-street, pedestrian-free environment. Students use motorcycles provided by the school (on loan from local dealers) to learn and practice safely and correctly the various maneuvers and demanding situations encountered in street riding.

Riders must pass both a written test and a riding skills test in order to complete the course.

The Basic Riders Course (BRC) allows a student to use their own motorcycle or scooter in the course if it meets 2 of the 3 following requirements:
It must be rated from 100cc to 500cc
It must have an unladen weight of 400 pounds or less
It must have seat height of 30" or less.
Prior to class,  the motorcycle will be inspected for safety, and the student will be required to produce proof of insurance.

REMINDER:  Any damage occurring to the motorcycle or scooter used during class, is not the responsibility of Gulf Coast Motorcycle Training,  the Florida Rider Training Program or MSF.
